CASE STUDY
Westminster Marine Aggregates GIS Development
Client: Boskalis Westminster UK
Summary of work completed
From May 2013 to present, MarineSpace has been providing ongoing GIS (Geographic Information System) development for the marine aggregate
dredging company Boskalis Westminster UK. Boskalis Westminster UK is a subsidiary of one of the world’s largest dredging groups, Royal Boskalis
Westminster N.V., and has been operating in UK waters for more than 80 years.
During the project, MarineSpace developed, co‐ordinated and implemented a schedule of work to digitise Boskalis Westminster’s historic environmental survey data and reports undertaken to monitor and assess its marine aggregate dredging activities. A bespoke GIS management system and data catalogue was developed and implemented. The data and reports were digitised and catalogued in a systematic manner. The data were imported into the GIS mapping software MapInfo. The data were used to create interactive charts to enable data analysis and resource identification.
This project is ongoing with the continual addition of new survey data and development of a suitable internal dissemination tool.
